Because I felt fairly lousy last week, I spent most of my time laying on the couch, watching TV, and grumbling about the frequent commercials interrupting my Food Network shows. (After the first 57 times of listening to a Swiffer Sweeper commercial, you’d think I could sing along!) But when a Kellogg’s rice krispie commercial popped on and disrupted the monotony of cleaning supplies, my ears perked up.
In the black-and-white clip, a mother and her children sat at a kitchen table, stuffing the stick rice krispie treat cereal into plastic eggs. They hid a few pieces of candy inside as the “yolk” before closing the two halves to create their Easter egg.
Completely smitten, I begged my dad to buy the ingredients, and I heaved myself off of the couch and into the kitchen. Although we definitely don’t resemble chickens, we “laid” our out eggs and enjoyed them as a special and sweet Easter treat.
Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats
makes 14-16
It’s much easier if you find a friend to help you! Have one person stuff the plastic eggs with the gooey rice krispies, and have the other person mold the cereal and stick the M&Ms inside. They’re best served fresh but will keep in a sealed container for a few days.
6 c. rice krispies
5 c. mini marshmallows
3 tbsp butter
1 c. M&Ms
12 plastic Easter eggs (you will reuse a few of them!)
- Pour the rice krispies into a medium bowl. Spray the insides of the plastic eggs with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large pot over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Stir in the marshmallows, and continue stirring until the marshmallows melt. Add the rice krispies and stir to coat.
- Fill each half of a plastic egg with the gooey cereal mixture, and mold a well into the center of each half. Add a few M&Ms to one well, close the egg, and press the halves together to seal. Repeat with the remaining cereal. Remove the treats once they’ve cooled. (You will need to remove some of the rice krispie treats from the plastic eggs to make all 14-16.)
These treats both look and taste “eggsellent”!
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed them!
These were so delicious! I highly recommend them.
Thank you! And I’m glad you [probably?] got to share them as well!
