Notes
IMPORTANT PROTEIN POWDER NOTES – READ BEFORE BEGINNING:PlantFusion vanilla bean protein powder and Bob’s Red Mill soy protein powder are my two favorite vegan protein powders. The former adds a sweet vanilla note but also a slight aftertaste, whereas the latter is basically flavorless. For anyone trying a protein powder smoothie for the first time, I’d recommend using Bob’s Red Mill soy protein powder to start. (It's also the one I use more often!)If using PlantFusion vanilla bean protein powder, add 1 scoop (30g). If using Bob’s Red Mill soy protein powder, add ¼ cup (19g).Most protein powders will work, so you're welcome to try using whatever you already have on hand!For more information about substituting different protein powders, see my Protein Powder FAQ Page.IMPORTANT FLAVOR NOTE – READ BEFORE BEGINNING: The fruit provides all of the sweetness, so make sure your banana is really ripe before freezing it!Depending on your tastes or protein powder, or if your fruit isn't very ripe, additional sweetener may be needed. Any sweetener may be used (ie liquid stevia, granulated sucralose, erythritol, pure maple syrup, agave, honey, etc). Adjust the amount to suit your tastes. If using traditional liquid sweeteners (such as pure maple syrup, agave, or honey), I recommend reducing the milk by an equal amount to ensure the smoothie stays thick and creamy. (For example, if you add 1 tablespoon of pure maple syrup, reduce the milk by 1 tablespoon.)BANANA NOTE: To freeze bananas, cut each banana into 1”-long chunks. Set the pieces onto a small baking sheet, and place in the freezer for at least 1 hour or until frozen. Transfer the chunks to a labeled freezer-safe zip-topped bag, and squeeze out all of the air.MILK ALTERNATIVES: Any milk may be substituted for the unsweetened cashew milk.{gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, egg-free, clean eating, low fat, high protein}
