This healthy breakfast comes together in mere minutes! It’s filled with hearty oats, naturally sweet berries, and no added sugar. You can easily make a bigger batch of this homemade muesli too. Simply store it in a large airtight container and use about ½ cup per serving.
1tbsp (2g)freeze dried strawberries(broken into smaller chunks)
FOR SERVING: milk of choice
Instructions
Combine the oats and freeze dried fruit in a small bowl. Pour milk over the top, and let the muesli sit for 3-10 minutes, depending on how soft you’d like it. Eat and enjoy!
Notes
IMPORTANT SERVING NOTE – READ BEFORE BEGINNING: The longer you let the muesli sit in the milk, the softer the oats become. If you prefer much softer oats, stir together just the oats and milk in the bowl, pop that in the fridge, and let it sit for up to 30 minutes. (If refrigerating longer, then cover the top of the bowl.) Wait to add the freeze-dried fruit though! It softens much faster than the oats, and when left for too long, the berries will disintegrate and turn your oats an unappetizing shade of gray.OATS ALTERNATIVE: Quick cooking oats (gluten-free if necessary) may be substituted for the old-fashioned rolled oats. Do not substitute steel-cut oats; they don't soften properly.BERRIES NOTES + ALTERNATIVES: I’ve had great luck finding freeze dried berries at Trader Joe’s and Target. Many other stores have started stocking them too. Feel free to substitute your favorite freeze dried fruits instead — almost any type should work!MILK NOTE: Almost any type of milk will work, so feel free to use whatever you typically buy or have in your fridge.HOW TO STORE: If making a bigger batch, skip the milk, and store just the muesli in an airtight container at room temperature. It should keep for at least one week, if not longer.{gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, egg-free, clean eating, low fat, sugar-free, nut-free}
