This past week while sitting in the empty waiting room before my regular doctor’s check-up, an elderly gentleman about my grandparents’ age ambled in, signed in with the nurse at the desk, and sat down a few chairs away from me. He picked up a magazine before turning towards me and remarking, “Excuse me… Those are some cute shoes!”
I glanced down at my brown flip flops with tiny stones stitched into the straps, then gave him a huge smile. “Thank you!”
He smiled back, replying, “I never know whether I’ll get hit or get a smile when I say something like that to a pretty girl… So thank you for your beautiful smile!”
I laughed and reassured him, “You’d only get smiles from me!”
Although we’re typically taught at a young age to never speak to strangers, I wish we’d ignore that advice more often as adults and sprinkle compliments and sweet comments around like confetti. Even now, nearly a week after our encounter, that elderly gentleman’s comment still makes me smile when I think about it!
And I feel so blessed that you do the same thing here. You leave me sweet comments all the time, and they truly brighten my day! Every time you browse through my recipes and pick some out to try… Every time you take pictures of them to share with me on Instagram… Every time you type out kind comments to tell me about those recipes here and on Facebook… Every time you tell me how much you, your family, and your friends loved the treats…
It makes me feel like the luckiest girl alive! Especially because all of those sweet actions, no matter how small, have added up and enabled me to make Amy’s Healthy Baking my full-time job. I am incredibly grateful for what you’ve done for me!
So to say thank you, I’m putting the spotlight back on you today! Here are some of the recipes that you’ve tried and pictures that you’ve shared on Instagram. I truly appreciate each and every time you do that; it really means the world to me! ♥
If you’re interested in starting a blog too, I have an easy guide on how you can start your own blog here! (And it takes less than 30 minutes!)
I can’t wait to see what you try next! ♥
Would you like to see your picture in my next Sunday Spotlight? Then share it with me on Instagram using #amyshealthybaking and tag @amyshealthybaking IN the photo itself. (That guarantees I’ll see your picture! ?) I can’t wait to see what recipes you make!
Amy, you have such a genuine and kind heart. We need more people like you in this world <3 x
You’re so sweet Cathy — that means so much to me! Thank you! ♥
I like these Sunday Spotlights because I get to go back and read previous postings.
(And pin recipes–I’m making the lemon pound cake!)
I never knew you had a different name for your blog.
I can’t see me posting a picture of a recipe in the near future–I’m like you were in the beginning and no nothing about technology (I still don’t have a smart phone.)
I’m really glad you’re enjoying these Sunday Spotlight posts Nancy! And thank you so much for pinning my recipes; I’m really touched. I can’t wait to hear what you think of the lemon pound cake! I’m sure your pictures look just fine as they are. I’d love to see them sometime! 🙂
That elderly man sounds adorable!! Your stories always make me smile 🙂 Love all of the spotlights this week! The Simple Raspberry Lemon Cake is gorgeous! 🙂
Aww thanks Marina! The stories are definitely my favorite part to write. 🙂
