After one particular holiday season where I indulged in more sweets than ārealā food, everything from chocolates and cookies to candy canes and cakes, I decided to avoid all desserts from January until my birthday in late June as my New Yearās Resolution. I felt so sluggish and bloated after eating so many treats⦠And I also wanted to see if I could stick with that challenge!
When my birthday rolled around, I realized I was almost halfway through the year⦠And without a single bite of dessert passing through my lips, not even a forkful of birthday cake, I decided to continue with my challenge until the next January.
Although I made it through the entire year (plus about a week and a half of the following January⦠I was too indecisive to pick out my first treat!), I realized in hindsight that was a very unhealthy decision to avoid all desserts.
Multiple times each week, I ended up overeating after finishing dinner. I served myself a small bowl of yogurt with granola, nibbled on a piece of juicy fruit, and picked at yet another handful of granola⦠All trying to satisfy my craving for something sweet.
One chocolate chip cookie or one fudgy brownie wouldāve done the trickāand saved me so many calories.
By the time my birthday arrived, I noticed a few extra pounds hanging around my belly!
Iām sure YOU perfectly pace yourself through the holiday cookie exchanges and dessert buffets at family parties without ever feeling like youāve overindulged⦠And never pass your sugar limit before lunch⦠Or plow your way through seventeen pieces of Christmas candy instead of eating a sensible dinnerā¦
But in case you know of someone like me who consumes a few lot more treats than intended during the holidaysā¦
Donāt let us make my same mistake. Donāt let us swear off dessert in the name of being healthy⦠Only to accidentally overeat and gain weight as a result.
Instead, I highly recommend {sensibly} satisfying our sweet tooth!
When it wants a chocolate chip cookie, let it enjoy one! ā¦instead of eating six slices of toast with jam while trying to ignore that craving.
When it asks for a slice of chocolate cake, say yes! ā¦instead of pouring three bowls of cereal that donāt taste satisfying at all.
And to help you satisfy your sweet tooth without the guilt, Iām offering a special deal to anyone who buys my Healthier Chocolate Treats Cookbook!

Thank you SO much for your interest and support for my recipes and cookbook! Thatās exactly what has allowed me to make Amyās Healthy Baking my full-time job, and Iām truly grateful for you!Ā ā„
I’ve also had the same problem! There was one time when I really wanted a bowl of cereal, but I ended up eating basically everything in the kitchen besides cereal – fruit, dinner leftovers, crackers. These healthier chocolate treats look wonderful! I bake a lot for my housemates, so I appreciate how you always provide less-bad versions of so many treats. š
You’re so sweet — that means a lot to me Elaine! Thank you! š
