Two days before Christmas, my guy scrambled to think of gifts for his little cousins. All four of them loved Angry Birds, but their parents had already bought every toy and game that Walmart stocked. With the sky-high prices to FedEx online orders overnight, my guy was ready to wave the white flag and wrap each of them a paperclip.
As I prepared the adultsā presents, cornbread-in-a-jar, I nearly knocked over a box of Rice Krispies while reaching for the sugar, which caused the light bulb above my head to flicker.
What about making Rice-Krispie-treats-in-a-jar for the kids?Ā Ā
And not just any Rice Krispie treatsā¦ Funfetti rice krispie treats.
My guy loved the idea so much that I almost gave him his own jar! Except we ran out of glasswareā¦ So I mixed up a batch for him after the holidays instead.
Feel free to substitute other sprinkles, but try to avoid the tiny multi-colored balls. They bleed all over the place!
- Grease an 8ā-square baking pan, and set aside.
- In a large bowl, stir together the cereal and sprinkles. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the marshmallows, and stir constantly until melted.
- Pour the marshmallow mixture over the cereal, and stir with a spatula until all of the cereal is coated. Spread the cereal mixture into the prepared pan, and press down using greased hands or wax paper. Let the treats cool slightly before cutting into 16 squares.

Thank you! I had just as much fun putting them together as I’m sure the kids had making the treats!

Is this the right amounts for putting in a jar? I love the idea of the fluffy white marshmallows topped by sprinkles!

Just about! I used a larger sized mason jar for the gifts, and I put 3 cups of rice krispies, 3 tablespoons of sprinkles, and 2 cups of marshmallows inside. (My guy likes his rice krispie treats with extra marshmallows, which is why I added the extra Ā¼ cup in the recipe above.)

Thank you! They were definitely tasty… We finished them off so quickly that I barely had time to photograph them! I’d say that’s the mark of a good recipe. ;]

Thank you! I definitely needed a little color to brighten up the overcast and foggy winter days we’ve been having. And the rice krispie treats were so quick to make!

These look very pretty and I’m already thinking of ways to veganise them š

Thank you! I try to make many of my recipes vegan-friendly with just a few substitutions (like Earth balance for butter, or Ener-G for eggs [I almost exclusively use Ener-G in my baking!], or any type of milk). I haven’t tried vegan rice krispie treats, but I’ve seen corn syrup used instead of marshmallows! Maybe that would work?

These look fun! Now that they have gluten free rice krispies, I plan to make these for my daughter. Her first birthday is coming up, these may be great for the pink elephant party theme!

I hope you do! We loved them, especially on the gray days we had that week. They were gone in less than 2 days, even without any kids in the house! ;]
