Throughout my childhood, Mom rarely allowed my brother and me to eat chocolate as part of our breakfast. No chocolate cereal, no chocolate muffins, no chocolate chip bagels…
The only exception was when she let us pick out a chocolate donut—such a special occasion! Yet even then, we had to walk from our house to the little donut shop a mile away first… Which was very smart planning on Mom’s part because we’d burn off much of our chocolaty sugar rush on the trek back home!
As an adult who now gets to make her own breakfast decisions, I’m making up for lost time with these Healthy Triple Chocolate Scones! They’re supremely tender and remind me a bit of fudgy brownies… And unlike those special occasion donuts from my childhood, these result in no sugar rush—and they’re just 138 calories!
You can watch the episode below, where I show you how to make these guilt-free scones, and get my recipe directly beneath the video. And remember to subscribe to my TV show here, so you’ll be the first to know when a new episode airs each week!
I’d absolutely LOVE it if you leave me a comment below and tell me what you think of my TV show! And remember to subscribe to my TV show here! ♡

Ok, remember how I said I was giving up chocolate and soda? Well, I made it 5 days without chocolate before I caved… HAHA. I decided that it’s best for my sanity if I amend my challenge to be no chocolate on weekdays- which is hard enough! Anyways, kid you not, I DREAMED about homemade cookies last night- I was picking out a bunch of perfect-looking ones to take to my classmates when an army of ANTS came to destroy them! Sad! Long story short, I’m over here drooling over these fudgy scones now. Can I come over to eat scones, drink tea, and chat with you? <3 Skype date soon!? GREAT episode! It still blows my mind how professional this looks. I mean, not really since it's you, but you know what I mean! 😉

The fact that you made it FIVE WHOLE DAYS without either completely blows me away! I need chocolate on an hourly basis! 😉 Ugggggh I hate hate hate ants!! You remember that crazy ant episode in my apartment, right?? So that sounds like the worst nightmare ever! ? You’re the biggest sweetheart ever! Thank you SO much!!! ? Yes please on the Skype/FaceTime date!!! I can’t wait to hear all about your classes and travels!!
Andrea says...
HAHA, I sure do remember those darn ants in your apartment… the WORST! And I’m sure we talked about how my house growing up was pretty much on an ant hill, because we had awful ant problems every summer. So same, HATE THEM! You’re so cute- chocolate on an hourly basis- this blog should have been Amy’s Healthy CHOCOLATE Baking Blog! 😉 <3
Amy says...
Oh my gosh, YES!! I remember your ant horror stories about your childhood house — YUCK!! ? I love your new name for my blog! And then… During the fall, let’s change it to Amy’s Healthy PUMPKIN Baking! 😉

Hi Amy, I love the way the details you give such as – cold butter and using a pastry cutter – and that easy way of making chocolate drizzle – ARE really handy. I have clients here at home where I run Dyslexia Programmes and also work with ADD/ADHD children so am always looking for recipes to make for morning teas which don’t send the children through the roof with sugar (heh heh making my job harder…). Yours are really good – exchanging sugar with maple syrup and use of yoghurt. Thank you for a great blog and now videos which are really easy to follow:)
Amy says...
Thank you SO much for your kind words Claire! That means the world to me!! 🙂 You’re so sweet to think about making my recipes for your clients. They’re truly lucky to have you! (And I don’t blame you one bit for not wanting to give the children too much sugar! I live on a street full of the most adorable little ones, and their sugar highs on Halloween are no joke! 😉 ) I’d love to hear what you think if you try these scones!

Amy;
I also love anything with a lot of chocolate but I have to limit myself to sugary sweets because I have type 2 diabetes, but your wonderful and awesome website has a lot of healthy recipes that I have no guilt making your recipes.
What can I use in your scones in place of maple syrup or honey?these two ingredients puts up my blood sugar a lot and it is a challenge to continue keep my blood sugar under control but I continue to work hard at it everyday.i do manage to have mostly good days of very good blood sugar readings and just a little bit of some bad days when my blood sugar goes up a bit.i walk everyday,go up and down three flights of stairs in our house when our weather and temperatures are bad such as our wintery January weather that we have been going through since late fall and right now we have 25cm of snow on the ground and 9cm of more snowfall coming by feb.2nd.

Hi Amy –
I’ve made several of your recipes but have never commented on your blog (or any blog) before. I made these over the weekend. I bake a lot, but have never made scones before. I thought my dough was too crumbly, but as this was new to me, I wasn’t sure. Thanks to your video, I was able to see what the consistency of the dough should be and added some additional milk to achieve the desired result. So, thank you so much for the video as it was a lifesaver!
I also added some pecans to the top before baking. My husband LOVED, LOVED, LOVED them and said the recipe was definitely a keeper! I think your pumpkin chocolate chip scones are next….
Amy says...
WOW!!! What a huge compliment — I’m so glad your husband enjoyed these scones and called them a keeper! I’m truly honored Lisa! 🙂 And thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! It really means a lot to me that you’d do that, and I’m so glad you found my recipe video helpful too. I can’t wait to hear what you think of the pumpkin chocolate chip scones if you try them! (And I have another scone recipe video coming in two weeks, so stay tuned! 😉 )

I’m not sure where the calories are in your recipes. Some have it clearly printed and others I don’t see a thing. I know it must be there, so would you please share with me? Thank you.

I have 1200+ recipes on my website, and the majority of them have the nutrition information included directly underneath each recipe box! I know it can be really easy to miss. 🙂 I’m working on going back and adding the nutrition information to all of my older recipes too. It takes a bit of time to do, but I’m slowly making my way through them! In the meantime, if you’d like to calculate the nutrition information for my older recipes where it’s currently missing, this is the nutrition calculator that I use. It’s free and really user friendly! 🙂
If you decide to try making these scones, I’d love to hear what you think of them, Laura!
