Last weekend, after hearing music blasting from my neighbor’s stereo for nearly three hours in a row, everything from The Lion King and Phantom of the Opera soundtracks to Katy Perry and Britney Spears, I walked over and knocked on their front door. When the father pulled it open, I politely asked if he could possibly turn down the volume.
He profusely apologized immediately, explaining that the electrician had blown an amplifier and was working on replacing it. He included that he had been working in his noise-insulated office and failed realize just how loudly the songs were playing. Before I even made it to the end of their driveway, the music had faded away to a mere whisper.
Later that evening, I stopped by my neighbor’s house again, this time carrying a plate laden with slices of my most popular banana bread recipe to say thanks. When the father answered, he looked just as surprised to see me (and the baked treats!) as he did earlier in the day. “Oh my, you didn’t need to do that!” he exclaimed.
We continued to chat for a few minutes, and a few days later, he actually stopped me in the street when he spotted me returning from a walk, thanked me again for the banana bread, and gushed over how much they loved it.
Oftentimes, those simple acts of kindness are the most meaningful and the ones that completely turn someone’s day or week around—or sometimes even their life.
And I’m so grateful that you perform simple acts of kindness for me every single day! You visit my website and browse my recipes… You save them on Pinterest and print them out to try… You share the treats with your family and friends… You pass along the name of my website and the recipe links to them… You leave me sweet comments on my blog and on Facebook… You snap pictures of the treats and share those with me on Instagram…
Those actions may sound simple and insignificant, but my heart melts every time you do that. Your interest and support for my blog and recipes has enabled me to turn Amy’s Healthy Baking into my full-time job and full income source, and I’m beyond grateful. I truly appreciate you!
