This past winter, my parents hosted a small Super Bowl party at their house and invited many of their old college friends. Even though they all attended a prestigious university in Southern California, most of them eventually moved north to the San Francisco Bay Area, so they meet up a few times throughout the year, usually for dinner or card games or—in this case!—big sporting events.
My dad loves to cook (and probably the person from whom I inherited my passion for baking, too!), so he spent a few hours chopping and sautéing and grilling to prepare the main courses and side dishes before everyone else arrived. Mom volunteered to take over the appetizers, and because she lands on the far opposite side of the cooking scale as Dad and me, she turned to options requiring minimal prep.
As her light bites for guests to snack on during the first half of the football game, she set out pre-chopped veggies and dips, tortilla chips and spicy salsa, water crackers and sharp cheddar, sliced baguettes and Brie, dried fruit and M&Ms. (Yes, she passed along her chocoholism to me! That’s why I wrote my Healthier Chocolate Treats cookbook!)
Both Mom and Dad erred on the side of too much food rather than too little, so when the game finished five hours later, we ended up with plenty of leftovers. Because I filled up on grilled chicken and vegetables earlier, I served myself a few baguette pieces and a slice of chocolate cake once our guests departed.
Although I finished the dessert first before turning to the bread… I grabbed more baguette slices when I returned to the kitchen instead of a second piece of chocolate cake! They were topped with the most irresistible “everything bagel” seasoning, and my taste buds just couldn’t get enough. I must have snacked on nearly an entire baguette by the time I went to bed that night!
Even though at least three months have passed, my love for that seasoning blend hasn’t diminished—and, truth be told, has actually grown!—so I mixed it into these Healthy Everything Bagel Quinoa Crackers to satisfy my cravings. They’re perfectly crunchy and really easy to make with just 5 ingredients and 107 calories!
And after sharing them with Dad, I think I’ll need to bake a double batch every time… He loves them just as much as I do!
To make these healthy crackers, you’ll start with quinoa flour. Yes, that does exist! It’s made by grinding protein-rich quinoa into a fine powder. Although it’s possible to make your own, I recommend buying it instead because homemade version tend to be much coarser… Meaning your crackers could have chunks of quinoa. I love this brand and this brand; both work equally well!
Before stirring in water and a touch of olive oil, you’ll mix in your everything bagel seasoning. It’s possible to purchase this seasoning, but unlike the quinoa flour, I highly recommend making your own! You’ll need poppy seeds, white sesame seeds, dried onion, garlic powder, salt, and caraway seeds.
Yes, I include caraway seeds! Very few store-bought everything bagel seasoning blends add this to their mixes, but those original baguettes did… And it makes a huge difference in flavor—in the best oh-my-goodness-what-is-that-flavor-it’s-sooooo-good sort of way! Trust me. It’s totally worth making your own for that extra depth of flavor!
To roll out the cracker dough, I highly recommend a silicone baking mat and silicone rolling pin. ← Those are the exact ones that I own and love! The dough sticks to them much less than to a traditional rolling pin or parchment paper, which makes this step of the process much less frustrating… And much less time-consuming too!
Then slice the dough into small squares with a pizza cutter (that’s my secret trick!), prick each one’s center with a fork, and sprinkle with a little more salt. If you have the time to separate the crackers before popping your tray in the oven, it’ll ensure they bake more evenly!
Snack time! And if you manage to eat less than half of these in one sitting, please let me know your secret! ? And when you make your own, remember to snap a picture and share it on Instagram using #amyshealthybaking and tagging @amyshealthybaking IN the photo itself! (That guarantees I’ll see your picture! ?) I’d love to see your crackers and feature them in my Sunday Spotlight series!
Healthy Everything Bagel Quinoa Crackers | | Print |
- 1 cup (120g) quinoa flour (measured like this), plus more for rolling
- 2 tsp homemade everything bagel seasoning (see Notes)
- 5 ½ tbsp (82mL) warm water
- 1 tsp olive oil
- ¼ tsp salt
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the quinoa flour and homemade everything bagel seasoning. Make a well in the center. Pour in the water and olive oil. Mix all of the ingredients together until a dough forms.
- Lightly flour a silicone rolling pin and silicone baking mat with quinoa flour. Transfer the dough to the mat, and roll out to 1/16” thick. Slice the dough into 1”-square pieces using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, and prick the center of each square with a fork. Separate the crackers, if possible, so they’re no longer touching (this ensures even baking!). Sprinkle the salt on top, and gently pat it down into the dough.
- Slide the mat onto a baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes or until the crackers are golden and crunchy. Cool the crackers completely to room temperature on the baking sheet before transferring to an airtight container.
If you don’t have or don’t like a particular part of the everything bagel seasoning, simply omit it and use more of another, ensuring that you use 2 teaspoons in total. The recipe is very basic and forgiving, so add whatever combination of seasoning ingredients you prefer to make the crackers suit your tastes!
Coconut oil (melted), unsalted butter (melted), or any other oil may be substituted for the olive oil.
I highly recommend a silicone rolling pin and silicone baking mat (← those are the ones that I use!) because the dough sticks to them much less than to a traditional wooden rolling pin or parchment paper.

Wondering how many crackers are 1/5 of the recipe.
Thanks

I really appreciate your interest in my recipe Sherri! It depends on how precisely you slice the cracker dough, which is why I didn’t include a set number for 1/5th of the recipe. 🙂 I can’t wait to hear what you think if you try these!

I tried these with regular all purpose flour (I know I know but my partner wouldn’t buy quinoa just yet as it is a bit more expensive 🙂 and wow did I love these. Will never buy store bought chips and crackers again. You’re so smart for putting the caraway seeds in, they made all the difference 🙂
I will try this recipe with quinoa flour in the future!

I’m SO glad you loved these crackers Sophie!! That truly means so much to me — I’m honored! 🙂 I completely understand about quinoa flour too. Might as well use what ingredients you have on hand to start! 😉 I’d love to hear what you think of the quinoa version, if you do end up trying that too!
