As a self-conscious teenager, I spent many sunny afternoons strolling around the mall with my friends. I feigned interest in the tiny tops and tight jeans in their favorite trendy boutiques, but I always preferred the bath and body shops. There weren’t any “popular” scents of bubble bath or perfumed candles that I had to remember there!
One weekend, we got turned around and ended up at the wrong end of the mall. Too embarrassed to be seen consulting a map, I ducked into See’s while my friend searched for the bright red “You Are Here” dot. The lady behind the counter noticed me wander in and asked, “Would you like a free sample?”
Umm… YES PLEASE!! So that became our new tradition: stop by See’s for samples during every shopping trip. The store usually handed out the leftover rejects people refused to buy instead of their decadent dark nougat and scotchmallow bites, but who am I to turn down free chocolate??
But now, I don’t need to drool over See’s candy anymore… I have my own recipe for dark chocolate truffles, and they’re both easy and healthy!
modified from May I Have That Recipe?
With only three ingredients, these are SO easy to make! Customize them by using your favorite flavor of Greek yogurt.
- Add the chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave on HIGH for 20-second intervals, stirring well between each, until the chocolate is melted. (Mine took 3-4 pulses.) Let the chocolate cool for 5 minutes. Gently fold in the yogurt. Refrigerate for at least 25 minutes, or until it firms up but is still shapeable.
- Add the cocoa powder to a small bowl, and line a small baking sheet with wax paper. Remove the chocolate mixture from the refrigerator.
- Working with a teaspoon of the chocolate mixture at a time, shape into a ball and roll in the cocoa powder. Place onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining chocolate mixture, and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Um, YUM! This is brilliant!! I would have never in a million years thought that subbing out the traditional heavy cream in a truffle would work out… but this means I could eat twice as many! 😉

I know! Greek yogurt is both thick and creamy, which are the main characteristics that the heavy cream adds to truffles. And it’s so true… Each of these truffles should only be about 30 calories!

I haven’t had See’s candy in years! These truffles sounds delicious!

Thanks! I actually haven’t either, not since high school. But there’s now a family-owned gourmet chocolate shop in my new town, and… Well, I’ve sampled their truffles and chocolates a few times. ;]

Gotta love a recipe as sweet and simple as that! Love the fact that I have everything on hand to whip these up right now- Using almond-based Greek yogurt, of course. 😉 I have both strawberry and blueberry flavor in the fridge, so I might have to play around with that…

It’s almost too tempting to make these over and over again, just because I know I’ll always have the ingredients! I like your idea of substituting strawberry yogurt; I’m sure that would taste really good! And there’s vegan Greek yogurt?? How did I miss this?

These look delicious! You can’t go wrong with dark chocolate 🙂 Great photography by the way!

Thank you! Dark chocolate is my favorite. I could eat it at every meal!

This looks really good & I’m hoping to try them soon since I have all the ingredients. Did I miss something though? Are the blueberries mixed into the chocolate mixture? I’m sure it’s obvious. I just wanted to clarify. Thanks!

For these truffles, I just used blueberry-flavored yogurt. I didn’t use any fresh blueberries because I was afraid that their size would take up the entire truffle! It’d be fun to try using tiny fresh ones or maybe hydrated dried blueberries the next time.
I’m sorry for the confusion!

These look great…and healthy!! I must give them a try!

Thanks! I felt pretty virtuous eating them, so my conscious didn’t mind quite as much when I ate three or four… I’d love to hear your thoughts if you do try the truffles!

I made them, and they’re AWESOME! They’d be a great little gift for a friend. I might be making them waaaay too big, though – I doubled the recipe and eked out about 15 truffles.
I wonder if there’s a way to give them a colored coating based on the flavor. You could mix powdered sugar with cocoa for a honey-almond truffle; is there any sort of blue powder you could use on blueberry ones, or red for cherry?
foods for the soul says...
That’s a really fun idea! I’m not sure about the blue powder; all I can think of is blue food coloring at the moment. I wonder if there’s a way to dehydrate fruit juice to get the color you want?…
I used a teaspoon of the chocolate mixture for every truffle, which turns out to be the about size of a large marble. I’m guessing you used a tablespoon or two instead, but there’s nothing wrong with having extra big truffles!

Ohhhhh my goodness!!! Just wanna say thanks for posting this!!! It is absolutely fantastic and I don’t feel guilty eating them at all!! Lol. I did use fresh blueberries and did a mixture of pressed and (tiny) whole blueberries and it works perfectly. It’s so good biting into a whole blueberry!!! My little one loves the fact that she can help make them and also LOVES eating them!!! Thank you!!!

Forgot to add that I also sprinkled some cinnamon and just brought that to a whole new level! Can’t wait to substitute with strawberries and maybe blackberries and raspberries!! #yummy #yum!!!

Oh my goodness, your modifications sound amazing!! I’ll have to try them — and recommend them to other people too! I’m so glad to hear that your little one enjoys them too; hearing that made my day!

This is BEYOND BRILLIANT! I was thinking of maybe trying this with the dark chocolate coffee flavor, this soo smart and simple, SAVING this recipe 🙂

They make dark chocolate coffee Greek yogurt?? I had no idea! Maybe you could add a little dusting of espresso powder in with the cocoa for rolling… I’m sure my coffee-loving dad would approve!
