During my freshman year of college, my roommates and I baked a gigantic chocolate chip cookie “cake” to give to one of the guys on our floor for his birthday. One of my roommates had a crush on the boy, but since she was too nervous to say the cake was from her, we all helped her deliver it.
Just before walking over and knocking on his door, we transferred a large amount of store-bought canned vanilla frosting to a zip-topped bag, snipped off a tiny piece of one corner, and piped “Happy birthday!” across the top of the ginormous cookie. Yet even with its large size…
We still ended up with nearly a full can of vanilla frosting left over! So for the next week or two, we grabbed the frosting can out of our mini fridge anytime we started craving something sweet, and we dipped little Teddy Grahams into it as a treat.
Not exactly the healthiest… But definitely easy, yummy, and dorm-room-friendly!
Yet if I had known about these 13 Easy & Healthy Mug Cake Recipes, I definitely would’ve made them instead to satisfy my sweet tooth! They’re ready in less than 10 minutes and also dorm-room-friendly (no oven required!) Plus…
Unlike our canned frosting + Teddy Grahams desserts, these healthy mug cakes contain no eggs, butter, artificial ingredients, refined flour or sugar—and they’re all less than 150 calories!

I really appreciate your interest in my mug cake recipes Kim! You’re more than welcome to share them with your friends when they visit your new suite. You’re so sweet to want to do that for them! 🙂 I hope your move goes as smoothly as possible, and I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of these mug cakes!
Hey Amy,
I live in a home with no oven :O So your mugcake recipes are MOST welcome for the baker in me. Until I get a toaster oven to start baking, these single servings are perfect! Thanks for your detailed instructions and notes on substitutions!
I just made the poppy seed mug cake and it was delicious! I don’t have a ramekin and so I just used a regular mug, but it turned out great!
Have a great day!
I’m so glad you loved the lemon poppy seed mug cake Amanda! That means a lot to me! I can’t wait to hear what other mug cake recipes you decide to try! 🙂 When we went through a kitchen renovation, I didn’t have an oven either… So I can relate to your situation! 😉 I hope you’re able to get a toaster oven for baking soon!!
I made the batter for the peanut butter and chocolate mug cakes and took them on a camping trip. We put them in mugs and straight into our campfire for a delicious breakfast! It was so fun to do. I seem to be going backwards in my cooking methods??
I absolutely LOVE that idea of cooking the mug cakes with a campfire!! So, SO smart Amanda!! My family and I used to go tent camping at least twice every summer during my childhood. Although we never made mug cakes (only instant oatmeal in mugs instead of bowls!), your comment brings back so many fond memories. 🙂
I made the regular version. It was good but next time I will mix the dry ingredients first because it had a slight baking powder taste. Thanks for the easy recipe!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the mug cake Jacklyn! 🙂
Amy;
Hi,I have made your chocolate mug cake a couple of times and the mug cake tasted really good.
I was wondering if agave syrup can be used in your mug cake recipes instead of sugar.
Kim
I’m so glad you’re enjoying my mug cake recipes, Kim! It means a lot that you’d take the time to let me know. 🙂
You’re welcome to try using agave instead of sugar! You’ll usually need to omit the milk if using agave to compensate for the added liquid volume.
I can’t wait to hear what recipe of mine you try making next — and maybe even what your mother thinks of it too!
