As a self-conscious teenager, I spent many sunny afternoons strolling around the mall with my friends. I feigned interest in the tiny tops and tight jeans in their favorite trendy boutiques, but I always preferred the bath and body shops. There weren’t any “popular” scents of bubble bath or perfumed candles that I had to remember there!
One weekend, we got turned around and ended up at the wrong end of the mall. Too embarrassed to be seen consulting a map, I ducked into See’s while my friend searched for the bright red “You Are Here” dot. The lady behind the counter noticed me wander in and asked, “Would you like a free sample?”
Umm… YES PLEASE!! So that became our new tradition: stop by See’s for samples during every shopping trip. The store usually handed out the leftover rejects people refused to buy instead of their decadent dark nougat and scotchmallow bites, but who am I to turn down free chocolate??
But now, I don’t need to drool over See’s candy anymore… I have my own recipe for dark chocolate truffles, and they’re both easy and healthy!
modified from May I Have That Recipe?
With only three ingredients, these are SO easy to make! Customize them by using your favorite flavor of Greek yogurt.
- Add the chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave on HIGH for 20-second intervals, stirring well between each, until the chocolate is melted. (Mine took 3-4 pulses.) Let the chocolate cool for 5 minutes. Gently fold in the yogurt. Refrigerate for at least 25 minutes, or until it firms up but is still shapeable.
- Add the cocoa powder to a small bowl, and line a small baking sheet with wax paper. Remove the chocolate mixture from the refrigerator.
- Working with a teaspoon of the chocolate mixture at a time, shape into a ball and roll in the cocoa powder. Place onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining chocolate mixture, and refrigerate until ready to serve.

I made these a while ago and added some cayenne powder. They were gone in minutes!

Cayenne is such a great idea Shannon!! I love your creativity and just might have to borrow it for my next batch. 🙂

I was thinking some chili pepper might be in order w a different batch as that is one of my fav combos w chocolate. Can’t wait to try these with fresh blueberries and maybe frozen cherries down the road. Simple great but might mean I can eat them more often!
(BTW – don’t know if you know but if you click on print for the recipe it prints out ALL the pages seen here – 7 or more I think! )
thanks for the recipe!

Those sound like really fun twists Deborah! I’d love to hear how they turn out when you try them. 🙂 Thanks for letting me know about the printing problem! When you click “Print Recipe,” are you selecting the round green icon included in the recipe box, or did you use the File > Print menu in the web browser application?
Charlene says...
How long will it stay fresh in the fridge for?
Amy says...
They’ll keep for at least 5 days if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, but if your yogurt is freshly opened, they may keep for slightly longer. I’m excited to hear what you think of the truffles Charlene!

Can’t wait to try this recipe for Christmas! May I know for the dark chocolate, is it 100% unsweetened or semi-sweet? Thanks!
Amy says...
Here in the US where I live, companies actually sell bags of dark chocolate chips! They’re darker than semi-sweet but not nearly as dark as 100% unsweetened chocolate. The best substitute would be chopped bars of 65-70% dark chocolate. I can’t wait to hear what you think of the truffles Xuan!

hey! im a bit confused about how to add the cocoa powder?I think i may hve used yoghurt that’s too runny?
Amy says...
I really appreciate your interest in this recipe Gabby! In Step 3, you’re supposed to roll the truffles in the cocoa powder after they’ve been shaped. You don’t add it to the melted chocolate and yogurt mixture. However, if your yogurt was overly runny and you can’t roll it into balls, try stirring in additional cocoa powder (not what you’ll roll the truffles in!) about 1-2 teaspoons at a time until the mixture stiffens up. You can also refrigerate the mixture for longer. Does all of that make sense? 🙂
Gabby says...
Great thank you! so I’ll add in the additional cocoa powder to the mix so I can roll them.. then roll them in different cocoa powder or leave out that step? could I also add more melted chocolate? thank you 🙂
Amy says...
You’re welcome Gabby! Yes, you could also add in more melted chocolate! You’ll need more melted chocolate than cocoa powder to get the mixture to firm up though. You can either roll them in different cocoa powder or omit that step if the truffle mixture is already dark enough to suit your tastes. 🙂
Mita says...
Hi Amy, is this the yogurt with blueberries on the bottom? I don’t think I have seen any Greek fruit flavored yogurt like Yoplait where everything is blended in. All the Greek ones have fruit pieces on the bottom. Your recipes couldn’t get any simpler. And I love the fact that you can make small batches of them.
Amy says...
Thank you so much for your kind words about my recipes Mita! The fruit-on-the-bottom Greek yogurts will work. Just stir them up really well first! 🙂 I can’t wait to hear what you think of these truffles!
