During our winter break of our freshman year of college, my high school best friend and I planned a long day of hanging out and catching up before our extended families came into town for Christmas. We decided to bake holiday cookies at her house, so I drove over with my family’s extensive and eclectic collection of cookie cutters.
We found a traditional recipe online, one that instructed us to cream the butter and sugar, chill the dough, and roll it out with plenty of all-purpose flour. After a little quick math before started, we doubled the recipe to ensure we had plenty of cookies to give to both of our families.
That evening, we stood back and admired our hard work. Dozens of stars, sleighs, candy canes, and snowmen cookies covered the kitchen counter… Along with a mess of white flour and sugar. Whoops!
But this holiday season, I’m using my recipe for The Ultimate Healthy Sugar Cookies instead! They’re much easier to make—no mixer required and no flour involved in rolling out the dough, thanks to my secret trick!
Even better? These cookies contain no refined flour or sugar and just 41 calories, but they taste just as soft and buttery as traditional recipes! My family raves about them and looks forward to them every year!
Watch my short video below (less than 1 minute!) to learn how to make these sugar cookies, then grab the recipe directly beneath the video!
I love baking cookies! As a child I loved most cutting stars!
Those were some of my favorites as a kid too Stefania! 🙂 I’d love to hear what you think if you try these cookies!
Hi Amy! I want to bake these cookies, the look delicious ?. But I’m from Portugal and I have never seen “butter extract” been sold. Is there any alternative product?
Thank you!

I really appreciate your interest in my recipe Claudia! I’ve actually covered this in the Notes section of the recipe underneath the Instructions, as well as in the text of my blog post above the recipe (click the link titled “HERE” to get there!). It can be easy to miss both of those! 🙂 I can’t wait to hear what you think of these cookies if you try them!
Quick question: I left the dough in the fridge overnight..will that ruin my cookies? I have never made any kind of sugar cookies, but wanted to try the healthy ones first!
No, that won’t ruin your cookies at all! You may need to let the dough “thaw” a bit on the counter if it’s too stiff to roll, but that’s the only thing that might be different. 🙂 I can’t wait to hear what you think of these cookies Divya!
