During the holidays, I sometimes forget to slow down and simply enjoy the magic of the season. I absolutely love having Amy’s Healthy Baking as my full-time job, but it’s still nice to step back and fill my days with the other aspects of life!
Watch a holiday movie, my heart says. Snuggle up in warm blankets… Sip hot chocolate in front of the fire… Finish another winter-themed puzzle… Sing along to classic Christmas carols on the radio… Drive around and look at the beautiful twinkling lights adorning people’s houses… Spend more quality time laughing and relaxing with family…
Still, a little guilt often sets in. Stop being lazy! my brain shouts. Test another recipe! Edit more photos! Write a fourth blog post! Check into social media twenty-seven times today!
But as I remind myself plenty of times throughout December… It’s okay—and even healthy—to forgo the efficiency and productivity and mindful eating this time of year… In favor of spending more time with the ones we love and eating the foods we love and doing the things we love. (Like extra baking, for me!)
It’s okay to enjoy that second slice of gingerbread or third Christmas cookie or fourth piece of fudge. It’s okay to skip a workout or sprinkle extra marshmallows into mugs of hot cocoa. It’s okay to be gentle with ourselves, love ourselves, and do things that make us happy.
And YOU make me so happy every day! By visiting my blog and leaving kind comments, by sharing the links to my recipes with your family and friends, by trying those recipes and posting pictures for me to see on Instagram. Those small actions always brighten my day—and they’ve played a huge role in turning Amy’s Healthy Baking into my full-time job!
